Lattice of compactifications of a topological group
We show that the lattice of compactifications of a topological group $G$ is a complete lattice which is isomorphic to the lattice of all closed normal subgroups of the Bohr compactification $bG$ of $G$. The correspondence defines a contravariant functor from the category of topological groups to the category of complete lattices. Some properties of the compactification lattice of a topological ...
متن کاملLattice-invariant Topological Properties
The purpose of this paper is to show that an isomorphism between the lattices of all closed sets of two topological spaces induces an isomorphism on the lattices of their zero-sets. This is achieved by showing that any continuous real-valued function on a space X can be transferred to any space latticeequivalent to X. Several topological properties are shown to be lattice-invariant.
متن کاملProperties of Atomic Gas in Spiral Galaxies
Physical properties of the atomic gas in spiral galaxies are brie y considered. Although both Warm (WNM, 10 K) and Cool (CNM, 100 K) atomic phases coexist in many environments, the dominant mass contribution within a galaxy's star-forming disk (R25) is that of the CNM. Mass fractions of 60 to 90% are found within R25. The CNM is concentrated within moderately opaque laments with a face-on surfa...
متن کاملAtomic and optical properties of warm dense copper.
The emission of x rays from warm dense matter is of great interest for both spectroscopic diagnostics and development of intense x-ray sources. We report the results from the collisional-radiative steady-state (CRSS) modeling of atomic and optical properties of copper plasmas at near-solid and solid-state density for a range of temperatures. The CRSS model is validated against the available dat...
متن کاملUltrafast Optical Properties of Dense Electron Gas in Silicon Nanostructures
We investigate the ultrafast dynamics of carriers in a silicon nanostructure by performing spectrally resolved femtosecond spectroscopy measurements with a supercontinuum probe. The nanostructure consists of a 158-nm-thick crystalline Si layer on top of which a SiO2 passivation layer leads to a very high quality of the Si surface. In addition, a dielectric function approach, including contribut...
